My brother’s been binge-watching the series starting from season 1 for the past three days so far and now Pegasus saying ‘Yugi-boy’ is all I can hear…
- ‘Yu-gi-oh’ is actually a pun that means ‘king of games’
Just look at that menacing point - The author of Yu-Gi-Oh!, Kazuki Takahashi, has stated that Seto Kaiba is based upon a real person. Takahashi had a friend who like to collect cards for a card game and introduced Takahashi to another card game player. Takahashi’s friend then asked this person to teach Takahashi how to play the game but he refused, saying that Takahashi could come back after he’d collected 10 000 cards. This episode with the arrogant guy annoyed Takahashi, though he realised that he could make an interesting character out an arrogant jerk who thought that they were too good to play with others
Oh look, another menacing point - The card ‘Tyler the Great Warrior’ was actually created by Tyler Gressie back in 2002 (Tyler was diagnosed with liver cancer and managed to make a full recovery). For his Make-A-Wish, he asked to design a card for his favourite game – Duel Monsters
This would have been so cool for Tyler! - When the second Yu-Gi-Oh! movie was released in cinemas, those who saw the film were randomly given one of four cards with their movie ticket: Pyramid of Light, Sorcerer of Dark Magic, Watapon or Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon. These four cards were chosen because they were actually part of the film’s plot, though the Blue-Eyes card was totally useless at the time. To summon Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon you need to tribute Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon, but this card didn’t become available until two years later…
Hmm… yes, very good idea marketing team… hmm, yes, yes, good job
- There’s a game for Yu-Gi-Oh! that was developed to be able to stimulate the same type of experience that the characters have in the series. In 2016, Microsoft released a development kit for a project called HoloLens. HoloLens is quite similar to a virtual reality headset, though it has a clear visor over the player’s eyes. It is able to show augmented reality images, so it’s a game that allows for one to duel like the characters do in Yu-Gi-Oh!
I better start saving up… - Yu-Gi-Oh! is actually the first ever abridged series, created by Martin Billany!
The abridged series is a blessing - Yugi is the first duelist to bluff during a game. This happened in season 1 when he duelled against Mai, and his bluff actually ended up helping him to win the duel
I’m proud of you and your deceitful ways Yugi - The reason why characters never seem to follow the rules of the games that they’re playing is because the creators hoped that children would buy more of their cards for the game if they were shown how powerful the monsters are. The creators just kinda hoped that no-one payed too much attention to what the rules actually are…
If it was me I’d just buy my favourite cards… Even if they were useless… - Yugi’s millennium puzzle definitely has a lot of abilities, but it’s also acts almost like a good-luck charm
It’s so bulky… Doesn’t Yugi’s neck get sore from wearing it everywhere? - In the English dub, Joey has a cousin named Jesse. However, in the manga Jesse has no relation to Joey and his name isn’t even ever mentioned. Fans believe that this was done so that it made more sense as to why Joey and Jesse sounded the same, as they shared the same voice actor
Okay they have sorta the same hair colour and that’s about it
I always love your facts so much! 💖 I’m glad Tyler pulled through to see his card make production! I’m not a Yu-gi-oh fan, but that would still be pretty cool! (I’d have to make mine a Magic card!!), and the newest Pokemon movie did the same thing where they gave out 4 pikachu cards and the other 4 were given away through my work.. DEFINITELY a good marketing ploy!!

Thank-you!!! ❤
Yes it would have had to been so surreal for him! Ooh nice choice of card too!
Yep it's definitely a good strategy! My sisters managed to get themselves each one of the Egyptian God cards when they saw the latest movie and they were so excited about it 🙂

Some of the stuff I knew and some I didn’t even know. I vaguely remembered Jesse from 5Ds. I was wondering if he was related to Joey. I missed out on getting the Yu-Gi-Oh cards from the movie. I want to get the Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon.

I feel like it’s probably more exciting for the audience if there’s a cousinly relationship between them (more than Jesse just being unnamed anyway)
Also, nooooo! Why did you miss out? 😦

Yeah it looks obvious. They sound the same and they almost look related. I missed out in 2004 because my parents didn’t want to give time to see this movie. I was the only one in the family who wanted to see it and get one of the cards. Unfortunately, my parents said no. 😦
