An Updated Pop Vinyl Collection

I have somehow managed to amass even more pop vinyls since last time. I often wonder how, but then remember that the vast majority were gifts or arcade prizes (along with some really cute plushies…) and I am grateful for all of them! Especially since I love decorating my room with things that I love, and merchandise is a big part of that for me.

It’s so hard to pick favourites, but this corner has to have some of them…
Fun fact about the Eeyore: it was a present ordered online for the diamond edition (which is usually glittery black). So when it arrived blue, the person who bought it for me was very confused and about to call the supplier to ask why it was the wrong colour. They then looked it up online, and realised that this was the ‘chase’ version and that the supplier did a thing where you could win it if you ordered online
I’ve had to start budgeting when I go to the second-hand book festival run each year in my city
It’s a bit of a Kingdom Hearts shrine area…
I just really love the Halloween Town designs!
I’m not going to think about Voltron Season 8
I have wayyyyyy too many favourite MHA characters
The collection has grown…

This is my first subscription box!

So I did a thing! Where I signed up for a monthly subscription box! I am cheap so I hunted the internet for the cheaper, yet also reliable, options and my search lead me to Fangirl Monthly.

Screen Shot 2018-11-15 at 8.18.11 pm.png

I have been informed by the company website that everything I received is worth $40+ USD, so that’s $55 AUD for me! And I ended up just purchasing the monthly plan, so with my trusty 10% discount and additional $3 off because this was my first box I ended up paying $42 AUD for it. That $42 AUD also includes shipping price I also had to pay, as the boxes were only $18 USD but worldwide shipping costed me $15 USD. (Also don’t be like me. I didn’t use PayPal when I bought this so it didn’t convert currencies for me and since I’m dumb I didn’t realise that after I selected my country as Australia, that I would still need to convert the currencies myself since I was still being shown USD.) So yay for buying things cheaper than if you bought separately!

This month’s theme was ‘battle’ and the anime/manga being drawn inspiration from were Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball Z. I like Sailor Moon, and I figured why not try out getting one box? I do like earrings after all, and postcards!

I like jewellery – earrings are my favourite, and I also like rings. Necklaces are a sometimes thing for me. And I got excited when Fangirl Monthly didn’t seem to do bracelets because now this company is right up my jewellery alley.

The box it arrived in was very nice, and everything was well wrapped and also in a cute little exclusive bag to keep it all safe! Bonus points too the eco-friendliness the company has and the cute monthly cards it sends subscribers.

Now I bought this completely knowing that I wouldn’t like everything in it. And that’s fine, I can always use things as gifts (or maybe prizes… OOH MAYBE I COULD SAVE THEM FOR IF I EVER DO A GIVEAWAY?!) because it just might not be my taste. I am quite weird after all about what I like. (Seriously. It can be really tough if you don’t know what I like. People close to me have to dedicate notebooks to documenting all the peculiarities I have too about it all.)

And so I present to you what I received!

Screen Shot 2018-11-17 at 12.15.30 am.png

The earrings are pretty cute, I’ll definitely be keeping those. And the postcard is pretty too. The Pikachu socks are cute too, but I know that I’ll probably never wear them. The necklace is eh for me but that’s just me. And this photo is definitely the only time I’ll ever wear the ring because my ring taste is more minimalistic.  Everything actually looks a lot better quality than I expected though! So that’s awesome!

I do want to say too how fast I got my package. The company policy stated that between the 5-10th of each month the order would be processed and then that the package would take between 2-3 weeks to arrive (estimating closer to the end of the month then for when subscribers will receive their box). But I got it super soon! Mine was processed on the 5th and arrived on the 15th November! I was super impressed! Everything was handled very easily too.

I have cancelled my monthly subscription though (with the FAQs page telling me exactly what dates I needed to do so by to not be charged) and as companies do they asked me to fill out a quick little ‘tick which reason is why you have chosen to cancel your subscription.’ I just clicked on the ‘bought as a gift’ option – since I was more just interested in trying to see how this goes.

So was it worth it?

Probably. For someone who isn’t me. I will be wearing those earrings though…

Luna (about Usagi): She has a pure love for eating and sleeping as well…

  1. The Sailor Moon ‘Materials Collection’ states when Luna is in human form, her age is ‘about one year below Usagi’s’Screen Shot 2018-10-11 at 1.47.05 pm.png
  2. Luna’s computer password is ‘The Rabbit on the Moon bakes Mochi cakes.’ This is actually a word play on Usagi’s name!Screen Shot 2018-10-11 at 1.47.38 pm.png
  3. Strangely, in stage shoes Luna and Artmeis are played by literal merchandise of their character…Screen Shot 2018-10-11 at 1.47.46 pm.png
  4. Luna’s original manga personality was presented as that of a younger but mature voice of reason, while in the dub it was changed to give her the personality of a more motherly figureScreen Shot 2018-10-11 at 1.48.21 pm.png
  5. According to ScreenRant (a reliable source, I know) Mau, the home planet of Luna and Artemis, means ‘cat’ in Egyptian. Apparently there’s even a breed of cats called Egyptian Mau, who are knows for their small to medium size and are short hairs.Screen Shot 2018-10-11 at 1.47.28 pm.png

Mid-semesters are slowly killing me at the moment…

I haven’t ever showed any merch I have before, so I thought it might be fun to do!

I’m not really a big collector but I do have quite a few pop vinyls (way more than my Mum likes anyway… She likes to sometimes look at them and then count up how much money I’ve spent on them. Which I mean, fair enough!)

So here is the not quite non-existent but also not extensive collection of pops that I have!

Jack and Black Lady look so great!!!

I think I’m just sitting here in a state of slight shock at the moment… But all these VAs are so talented! And they have so many other awesome roles that I could mention too!

  1. Hiroshi Kamiya has voiced both Levi Ackerman and Mephisto Pheles!

    Screen Shot 2018-04-27 at 11.32.40 pm.png
I think that I just find this kind of entertaining because Levi is obsessed with cleaning, while Mephisto loves chaos.
  2. Natsuki Hanae has provided his voice for Ken Keneki and Inaho Kaizuka.

    Screen Shot 2018-04-27 at 11.34.11 pm.png
An interesting character vs a cardboard personality?
  3. Ono Daisuke is the voice of both Erwin Smith and Sebastian Michaelis!!!

    Screen Shot 2018-04-27 at 11.38.21 pm.png
Well they’re both amazing… So I don’t really know why I’m surprised that they’re voiced by the same actor.
  4. Mamoru Miyano has voiced Light Yagami and Rin Matsuoka.

    Screen Shot 2018-04-27 at 11.40.18 pm.png
    Wow. Just wow.
  5. Megumi Ogata is the voice actress of both Yugi Muto and Sailor Uranus?!

    Screen Shot 2018-04-27 at 11.51.27 pm.png
Okay, okay, I did not see that one coming at all!
  6. Junichi Suwabe is the voice of both Victor Nikiforov and Juzo Sakakura.

    Screen Shot 2018-04-27 at 11.44.30 pm.png
Victor can be a total airhead and is so excitable, while Juzo is… not.

Bless Takeuchi

This series was first released in 1991! And it doesn’t back away from representing ideals and minority groups that we, as a society, are still struggling to represent today. So to have representation in a series where the characters just accept who people are and what they do – that’s amazing. Especially because this series has been around forever, so many people watch/have watched it, and it’s something that children watch too. So by having homosexual couples and women’s independence accepted in Sailor Moon, that really can have a positive impact upon children growing up with this series.

Unfortunately though, the manga and anime when translated for the English dub was censored. And the stuff that was censored was really silly. America felt so threatened by a lesbian couple that they made the characters cousins. And they felt so threatened by a gay couple that they decided to change the gender of the more ‘feminine’ looking character so that the couple was heterosexual. Sailor Moon is such a a progressive, accepting series. We should be embracing the ideals it perpetuates about gender and sexuality.

  1. It has a out and proud lesbian couple. In fact, the creators wanted to ensure that Michiru and Haruka were shown to be, “like an old married couple”

    Screen Shot 2018-03-12 at 10.32.33 pm.png

  2. And moving to back to talking about Haruka… their aren’t cisgendered. They are an androgynous character. They have a unisex name, like to dress in pants when not in their sailor uniform and Michiru even says herself, “Uranus is both a man and a woman. A soldier of both genders, with strengths and personalities of each.” Non-binary characters are seriously under-represented in media. Wikipedia’s list of non-binary characters (including genderqueer, gender fluid, agender and bigender) only consists of 29 characters. And there’s only 52 YA novels listed online that have a non-binary character in it (of which I have heard of about 5 of them before). The only series, films and books I’ve come across so far with non-binary characters are Sailor Moon and Attack on Titan, so it’s awesome to see that for a series this mainstream, there’s representation for people who aren’t cisgendered

    Screen Shot 2018-03-12 at 10.38.45 pm.png

  3. It has a gay couple who are. BOTH. MALES. AMERICA. And who cares if one of them has long hair?! Boys can have long hair if they want! Kunzite and Zoisite are such a sweet couple… We should let them embrace their gaynesss!

    Screen Shot 2018-03-12 at 10.34.51 pm.png

  4. There are the Sailor Starlights, who pretty much destroyed any preconceptions the other characters had about gender. They were male-bodied and then during their transformation, they would change into female-bodied people

    Screen Shot 2018-03-12 at 10.42.35 pm.png

  5. It’s a series with strong themes of feminism. Practically all the main characters are female, and they’re the ones doing most of the hero work

    Screen Shot 2018-03-12 at 10.37.46 pm.png

  6. Tuxedo Mask actually plays the role of the ‘damsel in distress’ throughout the series, because boys and girls can save each other. Usagi and Darien have a bit of a role reversal in their relationship too. Usagi is what society likes to call the ‘man’ in the relationship since she’s the one always saving Darien. So take that gender roles

    Screen Shot 2018-03-12 at 10.32.56 pm.png

  7. And leading on with that, Darien may be shown to struggle throughout the series with how he’s the one needing to be saved and having to rely on Usagi so much – but it’s not like his ego is dashed because of it or anything. I’ve always tended to interpret this as that Darien doesn’t like to feel helpless, and wants to be able to return the favour to Usagi by saving her once in a while… But Darien isn’t salty about having to be the ‘damsel in distress.’ These two are actually shown to have a very supportive relationship. Darien is continuously very encouraging of Usagi and doesn’t try to intervene with her decisions. Instead he prefers to trust her judgement.

    Screen Shot 2018-03-12 at 10.33.14 pm.png

  8. We also had the wonderful cross-dressing Fish Eye. That guy had some mad make-up skills. But of course America just had to deem this as ‘inappropriate content,’ so his character underwent a gender-swap during the production of the English dub

    Screen Shot 2018-03-12 at 10.46.08 pm.png

  9. Throughout the series, the female characters are still allowed to be feminine. Their outfits are bright and they have a surplus of jewellery and bows on hand. The scouts’ weapons are also things like tiaras, pens and wands. These items are typically portrayed as being very feminine and therefore tend to be associated with things like fragility but instead, in Sailor Moon these weapons are shown to be pretty awesome and very powerful

    Screen Shot 2018-03-12 at 10.38.22 pm.png

  10. The scouts have healthy friendships with each other. Usually, girls are portrayed to be very vicious when with other girls, so it’s nice to see so many non-toxic female friendships

    Screen Shot 2018-03-12 at 11.22.32 pm.png

  11. The girls aren’t restrained into behaving a certain way. As a main character, Usagi is not not typical all – especially for such an action-packed series. She’s lazy, lacks intelligence or any special skill (excluding napping) and likes to eat a lot. But the others scouts also all have their own varied interests – some of them like sports, others like music, others like fashion… They just like what they like and they aren’t pigeon-holed into being the ‘tomboy’ trope or ‘girly-girl’ trope if they don’t want to be

    Screen Shot 2018-03-12 at 10.33.35 pm.png

  12. Usagi makes her own decisions. She is not swayed by others. Takeuchi ensures that she is the only one to influence her decisions and actions. She is an independent woman

    Screen Shot 2018-03-12 at 10.34.13 pm.png

Usagi is actually most of the people I know

Should I feel concerned about Usagi’s and my similar habits?

  1. “I’m told my best subject is sleeping, but I think it’s eating”Screen Shot 2018-02-02 at 10.16.42 pm.png
  2. “Snack foods are 80% off? I’m definitely going there!”Screen Shot 2018-02-02 at 10.18.04 pm.png
  3. “I don’t want to go outside!”Screen Shot 2018-02-02 at 10.16.57 pm.png
  4. “I have so many things to do today! Go home early, eat snacks and finish the rest of my game”Screen Shot 2018-02-02 at 10.16.21 pm.png
  5. “Why does morning have to come?”Screen Shot 2018-02-02 at 10.26.01 pm.png
  6. “I don’t feel like doing homework”Screen Shot 2018-02-02 at 10.17.48 pm.png
  7. “Bring me a double bacon cheeseburger and a jumbo chocolate shake!”Screen Shot 2018-02-02 at 10.18.13 pm.png
