“But it’s been a long time since I felt this good on my own.”

I don’t think this song reminds me of home physically as much as it reminds me of the vibe that we’re all small specks of dust in such a vast universe. I just feel like it would be a great song to have someone dancing to with a brightly star-light night background in a dimly light city or in a landscape like what Ymir was in in Attack on Titan. Someone make this happen for me please. My soul needs it.

“What would I do without your smart mouth?”

I just really like this as a love song since it’s sung to the person he loves and includes things typically portrayed as ‘negative’ in a wonderful light. He just sounds so in love.

“Yeah but the feeling is fine.”

This song is such a bop. It’s got such solid beats against the vocals and the little odd sounding runs/trills just helps add to it.

This is such a chilling song. The chorus’ harmonies and articulation, the instrumental sections, the lyrics, it’s all so creepy and powerful. The part where they make Moses sing against Rameses too is just perfection.

“You’re frozen when your heart’s not open.”

In what is probably a rather controversial opinion, I much prefer this cover to the original. The lyrics are so perfect for a ballad and I think the fact he’s projection is so open voweled and warm sounding adds to a sense of longing.

Always Remember Us this Way // Songs that remind you of your childhood // Asereje by Las Ketchup

“Y la baila y la goza y la canta.”

This song purely reminds me of my childhood because my dad sung it so much with us and played it so much. He helped me with my pronunciation too since I always butchered it. Plus, my siblings loved this song when it was on Just Dance.

Let’s Get Down to Business // Songs that motivate you // Son of Man by Phil Collins

“Oh, the power to be strong and the wisdom to be wise.”

I don’t think this song motivates me as much as I just want to say I appreciate Phil Collins absolutely going above and beyond in Tarzan. I don’t even care about his tax evasion this song makes me feel things and stay focused on studying (I don’t do well with upbeat songs while studying, I need songs more in the same vibe as Son of Man to focus).

I was deathly afraid of this music video growing up. It got to the stage that just the music would make me physically nauseous. If you made me watch any part of the video I would cry. And if you made me sit through the whole thing it would sometimes get to the point where I was sweating and my hands were minutely shaking.

I was crying too much the first time I heard the song so I knew I liked it but on a second listen I remembering not liking it as much? But I listened to it later thinking I still wouldn’t like it that much and did a total 180. I love this beautiful song.

I actually don’t listen to albums so I wasn’t sure to to put it. However, I will listen to this song for the length of an album. Someone please make a note that I want this song played at every major life event I have and if it’s not I will be upset. Someone better play this behind me while I dance through the street one night after a fantastic day where a wizard walks me through the air.

An Updated Pop Vinyl Collection

I have somehow managed to amass even more pop vinyls since last time. I often wonder how, but then remember that the vast majority were gifts or arcade prizes (along with some really cute plushies…) and I am grateful for all of them! Especially since I love decorating my room with things that I love, and merchandise is a big part of that for me.

It’s so hard to pick favourites, but this corner has to have some of them…

Fun fact about the Eeyore: it was a present ordered online for the diamond edition (which is usually glittery black). So when it arrived blue, the person who bought it for me was very confused and about to call the supplier to ask why it was the wrong colour. They then looked it up online, and realised that this was the ‘chase’ version and that the supplier did a thing where you could win it if you ordered online

9 THINGS TO TALK ABOUT AFTER WATCHING VOLTRON S6

When I come back from a break, I do so with a 2000 word post to force upon all of you at the ready

So now that I have had an appropriate amount of time to freak out about Voltron, I thought I should write something about it. Usually I’d try to make a post like this ‘6 things to talk about’ since it’s season 6, but way too much happened in this season that I need to vent about.

This season literally hit us all like a tornado that none of us were ready for, and there was no red slippers or Glinda the Good Witch to greet us at the end of it – only tears, stress and an empty bucket of ice-cream. And yes I know I am literally weeks behind on this review but my Instagram feed nor me have fully recovered yet and then all of a sudden the season 7 release date was announced and it’s been a wild ride really. And then I went to sleep last night only to wake up to the news that Shiro was engaged to a man named Adam and has a chronic illness and probably only a few years left in ‘peak condition’ before he left Earth and just wow I wasn’t ready for any of this! But I’m so excited about everything that’s happened in season 6 and what’s to come in season 7 because there is just so much going on!

And some things to mention before I launch in:
– I’m calling the clone of Shiro either Clone Shiro or Kuron during this
– It’s Texas Kogane for me. And I love him with all my heart ❤

So let’s begin!

1. Lotor

Remember when #JusticeForLotor trended for a little bit? I don’t fully agree with it, but my AJ-biasness [AJ is Lotor’s VA] means that I fully understand Lotor’s position because that’s the mentality I’ve been mainly exposed to. He was abused, neglected and refused to accept who he was. He didn’t know how to get what he wanted, he had parents hellbent on universal domination, and also potentially was exposed to Quintessence while he was still in the womb. Anyone would be messed up after all of that. Lotor may be an antagonist, but I can fully sympathise with him with because his intentions were true even if he definitely did not go about it the right way. And if AJ tells me that it warms his heart to see #JusticeForLotor, then goddamnit I’m going to support it with everything I’ve got just to make that man happy. Also I’m too impressed with Lotor’s lying abilities to really be mad at him.
But also when we met Daic and Lotor does his little blush and sweat droplet? That’s so cute. And also the fact that if you watch the part where he tells Hunk that Daic could teach him about the Galran empire and you just watch Lotor, he totally knows how hard it is and knows he’s setting Hunk up and is loving it.
But yes, Lotor has done terrible things and now we know about them.
2. Kuron

This was so, so sad. The whole scene with Keith, the fact that the clone tried his best to live like the real Shiro and all he wanted was to be a paladin… *goes away to cry for an hour*
3. All the romantic ships – Allurance and Klance and Lotura and Texas Kogane/Krolia

Klance this season didn’t really have much going for it which some shippers were not happy about at all, but really why would it? Keith has been away for a while and they had some serious and important things to deal with immediately.
Then there was Allurance… A ship I personally don’t ship romantically because it’s one-sided. They clearly respect each other, but Allura only views Lance platonically and they have a good friendship that they’ve worked to develop. And Dreamworks seems to be heading more in the direction of setting Keith up as Lance’s endgame love interest, as we all know Keith is more well-suited to Lance as far as teamwork goes, being a support system for him and helping him improve as a person.
Then from the flashbacks we can gather that Krolia never wanted to leave Earth, and see how amazing her and Texas Kogane were and they’re so perfect I love them both Keith has the most amazing parents *cries enough to fill the Mariana Trench* But also, the fact that Krolia didn’t actually want to leave Earth means that once the war is over, there’s a chance that her and Keith might stay there because they want to be closer to Texas Kogane and even live in their family house.
And finally… Lotura was a mess. I do think that Lotor had genuine feelings for Allura but obviously he’s done some nasty shit and there’s no way she could forgive him for any of it. Then he looses it in the Quintessence field, so that ship sunk faster than the Titanic ever could. Which is sad, because I feel like if Lotor had taken better actions throughout his life and worked on developing a better mentality regarding his identity and working on his own issues then their relationship could have been very healthy as they were very supportive of each other probably would have had a great shot at lasting.
4. The Castle of Lions

To be honest I didn’t think I could try from a castle being destroyed, but Dreamworks gave it their best try. The fact too that while we watch the Paladins all bring something of their own with them but Lance only brought Kaltenecker made me relieved that the cow was okay, but also sad that Lance didn’t decorate his room. He didn’t make it feel like a home to him because he didn’t feel at home, his home is with his family…
5. The Altean Colony

Is it even real? What’s happening with it??? It all makes sense at the moment, but then when you consider that in the original Voltron that Romelle was actually Haggar in disguise… What is Dreamworks going to do with this information? Because since the colony was in some large area designed to be like Allura’s room with all the flowers, then technically something could have happened. Haggar could have got to the colony and brainwashed Romelle or something. It could all be a lie. Romelle herself could just be something created by Haggar. But then why did Lotor react? Why didn’t we actually get to see any Alteans apart from Romelle in the present time? And why did Haggar want Lotor to have Voltron turn against him? Maybe this is Haggar’s way to get her son to turn to her side?
6. The DnD episode

Kuron just wanted to be a paladin!!! It’s so sad!!!
Also Lance’s thing with the invisibility cloak and how he’s so loud so it seems like a weird choice of item for him… But I’ve seen lots of people pointing out that it’s probably because that’s how Lance feels in the team: invisible. Which is true but also heart wrenching.
But this episode was such a nice episode and a nice little break form all the chaos of the season.
7. The Koganes

Krolia is such a badass mum and it’s so awesome that Keith got to spend two years with her on that whale.
The wolf is also precious and I’m so excited to learn what it’s name is. Lauren’s [Lauren Montgomery is an executive producer, director, and storyboard artist for the show] hinted that they can’t reveal the wolf’s name yet, so perhaps it’s going to have some significance later on? My favourite theory about the wolf’s name is that Keith named his pet after his dad, and since we don’t know Keith’s dad name yet either then maybe it’s going to be brought up later as something big next season. (Especially considering that we’ve seen Keith’s dad from quite early on and he still hasn’t been named, yet minor characters who only appearance once still received a name.)
And Texas Kogane is a tough competitor with Shiro for my favourite character now if I’m being honest – the accent is beautiful, how nice he was, how much he loved his family and how he just found an alien and went with it all is great. And you might have seen how ‘Texas was a firefighter’ posts have spread across the internet, and the theory that that’s probably why he died young is so tragic. But he’s so beautiful and they had to make him amazing so that we would get upset.
And baby Keith with his little mullet is the cutest thing ever!
8. Going back home to Earth

Road trip next season! And the exciting thing about that is not only is there the potential for all the Holts will be back together, that Lance will get to see his family again, that Krolia and Keith will visit Texas Kogane’s grave… It seems that with no threat currently looming upon them at any second in season 7 (at least for the first few episodes of the 13 episodes long season) there will probably be more ‘natural’ interactions between the characters for the most part until they reach Earth. They’ll be room for Lance’s character development, them relaxing and having some fun, Lauren [an executive producer, director, and storyboard artist for the show] has said that there will be more Monsters and Mana… Also someone needs to address the fact that Keith almost sacrificed himself and that Lance did die, so hopefully next season that’ll happen please.
And speaking about Lance’s character development, his arc has to be next season I think. His family is such a big part of his identity and he’s slipped back into his older, really insecure thoughts this season. But now that Shiro is back (Lance’s role model) and so is Keith (who has been Lance’s main support about his insecurities throughout this series is as well), Lance really should be getting some more development soon! It’ll also be interesting see about how Lance handles having to go back into space once they build a ship for team Voltron again, considering how he has said he’ll step down as a paladin before and now that Shiro is back Lance might offer do the same again – especially since he would probably want to stay with his family (or at least definitely return to Earth once the war is over). Though the Voltron crew and cast do like to be cryptic too and @voltronofficial has released a post about how ‘the white lion isn’t done with Shiro yet.’ So what I’m thinking is that Lance could still have this doubtful moment about whether or not he stays a Paladin, but he will because Shiro is probably going to get the white lion to somehow pilot.
And also now that the season 7 trailer is out (watch it here) we can see that Earth is having some problems, so there’s going to be some interesting things happen with things like the Holts’ reunion and the fact that everyone seems to think that the Paladins have died (well, I mean, Shiro did but yeah moving on). But by far the biggest thing that we’ve learnt from the trailer is that Shiro had a fiance! So we’ll get to see Shiro and his ex-partner (apparently) reunite maybe, or maybe not, but either way it will be emotional time for sure! (Season 7 seems to be filled with lots of flashbacks of Keith from his Garrison days and of Shiro’s too from what we’ve seen so far from SDCC. 9. Other characters

Where is Matt? With the rebels? And what about the BOM? They weren’t brought in at all in this? And when the Galra Generals got blasted off into space were they close to that explosion? Hopefully we’ll get to find out more about what they’ve been doing or what happening to them next season.

So as far as virtually everything, I think this season has definitely been the best. The animation was so, so amazing this season (especially Keith’s battle with Shiro), the plot was interesting and the voice acting, although always great, was my favourite this season (the Keith vs Shiro scene was the one where Steven [Keith’s VA] cried in and AJ [Lotor’s VA] screamed a lot throughout this and literally everyone always does and did so great). So yes, I recommend.

8 THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT ‘VOLTRON: LEGENDARY DEFENDER’

“Oh, I’d recognise that mullet anywhere!” – Lance (about Keith)

From the start, the creators decided that Shiro would be Japanese. However, they decided that the ethnicities of most of the other characters would be kind of ambiguous. But that kind of got thrown out of the window once the VAs and creators started announcing the ethnicities of the main cast
Because, you know, we know that that Hunk’s Samoan, the Holts are Italian, Lance is Cuban and Keith’s mother is Galra while his dad is shown to have a mild mild southern accent
This is the 8th series that Dreamworks has created exclusively for Netflix
How interesting…
During the story-world building stage of production, the idea was tossed around that the aesthetic of the universe would be similar to that of Halo

Well that could have turned out quite different…
Jaoquim Dos Santos (one of the head writers of the series) has said that the main theme of the series is teamwork. But this teamwork isn’t the usual approach that creators usually take – as instead, Voltron’s teamwork involves more individual character development in order to allow the characters to reach their full potential and grow together. And this then allows for them to bond more as a team
Gotta love some good character development!

The creators have said that Lance is the character who they changed the least from the original, while Coran is the character that’s changed the most
And that’s because Lance is perfection
Tim Hendrick (the story editor) believes that Shiro is the hardest character to voice from a writing perspective
Keith is proud of you Josh Keaton
Both Josh Keaton (Shiro’s VA) and Tyler Labine (Hunk’s VA) auditioned for their respected roles in their normal speaking voice. However, Keaton’s voice apparently sounded too similar to Steven Yuen’s (Keith’s VA) and Keaton was to drop his tone and make his voice sound more authoritative for Shiro. Labine though was asked to add more ‘immaturity’ into his voice. This was because the creators wanted more concern and worry to be implemented into Hunk’s voice and they thought that Labine’s voice sounded too hold for Hunk’s younger age
Though hearing Keaton’s and Labine’s normal speaking voices throughout the series would be interesting…

5 COMMENTS ON VOLTRON: LEGENDARY DEFENDER SEASON FIVE

*Season 5 spoilers ahead*

I would just like to say that after watching season 5, it wasn’t until two nights afterwards that my brain decided that while being on the verge of falling asleep was the perfect time to realise that the mice were absent during this season. And as a result, this promptly gave me a rush of adrenaline that prevented me from going to sleep for the next 2 hours…

Lotura

I’ll start with this because wow. That was some intense development there. It was pretty rushed, and I ended up having to pause the show every 30 seconds they were on screen together because THIS IS SET UP FOR A RELATIONSHIP IF I’VE EVER SEEN ONE BEFORE AND I KEPT SCREAMING ABOUT IT.
They hold hands, Allura looks at him with such sparkling eyes, Lotor’s so soft around her. He believes in her. She is learning to trust him. They did the whole sharing pasts and dreams and family stuff and my god if that isn’t bonding then what is?! (And unlike Lance and Keith’s iconic bonding moment, they were both very aware of everything happening at the time). They had the whole glowing Altean markings thing because clearly they’re both special and they had quality time together and when Lotor turned to leave Allura PLACED HER ARM AROUND HIS IN EPISODE 5 OF HER OWN ACCORD
In conclusion, I ship it.
Krolia

What a beautiful, incredible woman. And the parallels between her and Keith were awesome. I’m really interested now in her backstory with the BOM, how she meet Keith’s father and why she left them. And we’re probably going to get to see some awesome moments between Keith and Krolia were they get to know each other! I’m just hoping she doesn’t get killed or sacrifice herself… Though let’s be honest, that’s angsty so it’s probably what’s going to happen.
I think that the only way she could have been better (though is that even possible?) would have been if she introduced herself to Keith as his mother a bit differently. When he didn’t really get what was happening at first it would have been so funny if she ended up doing the whole, “It’s me, KROLIA! Your – I AM YOUR MOTHER!”
Zarkon’s death

There was the battle scene and stuff for this (which was totally awesome!), and then afterwards they kind of just glossed over it and continued on like normal… No-one really cared and I mean, okay sure no-one really liked Zarkon anyway. And I guess that the Galra were more concerned about who’s going to become the next emperor so fair enough, Lotor probably felt no guilt, I guess that the Paladins held no remorse either and Lotor, Team Voltron and the BOM were busy planning their next move for the Kral Zera (since it was a big operation to plan within a very small time frame and a bunch of Galra generals trying to assert their dominance to deal with) so I suppose no-one really had time for emotions. My question now though is, who’s going to take Zarkon’s place? Who’s going to be our main antagonist? Is Lotor just pretending to be on Team Voltron’s side and the creators are going to go for the betrayal angle? Or is Haggar going to take Zarkon’s place? Though, she seems to be more interested in helping Lotor succeed at the moment…
Does Sam even know who Matt is?

Honestly this was just a bit weird for me. Like, I had assumed that Sam would have been closer to Matt with them having their own code that they came up with, the Kerberos mission (which would have entailed a lot of training, briefing, travelling to Kerberos and working on Kerberos together) and getting kidnapped… Maybe it’s just because Sam hadn’t seen Pidge for longer? I don’t know… Or maybe we just got to see more of Sam and Pidge because Pidge is one of the main characters, while Matt is ‘less’ of a lead character so Pidge’s scenes with Sam were prioritised over any that he has with Matt
Lance is an angel

Lance is just amazing. He always comforts his teammates and in this season he did it again. He reassured Allura despite his own problems with Shiro. He told Allura that he knows Shiro has the best interests of the Coalition like she does, and that they can make it through this tense time. That’s emotional maturity.
And Lance was crying too because he missed his family… He’s such a sweet boy. Though he didn’t get the comfort that Pidge and Allura got from people… Here we had a male character showing that boys can cry and show their vulnerability to others and being emotional, but we didn’t get to see if anyone comforted him. I really would have liked a scene for that – especially since he was surrounded by his entire team during this scene.
Lance has been shown to be pretty insecure and Keith is the only person we’ve seen who’s comforted and reassured him through the series. So that’s one of the reasons I think it’s great that we finally got to see another character reassuring Lance, as Allura told him he has greatness within! Both Keith and Allura also expressed that the whole team feels this way about him, even if he himself may not always feel useful. But he also hasn’t lashed out about feeling left out of the team, and has never failed to be there for others when they need him.
(Also Hunk up until this season had really only cried for it to be used as a bit of a humorous affect before. But in season 5 he mentioned how in his message to his family he had teared up, which is great to see that he’s willingly to admit how much he misses his family without fearing that the others will judge him for showing vulnerability! I feel like we’re definitely getting to see more of this vulnerability from males in the media today, so it’s awesome that creators are trying to break down the stigma that it’s ‘unmanly’ to cry!)
And ‘the real Shiro’ is trying to communicate with Lance and he seems to be catching onto the whole ‘clone Shiro’ thing because he’s the best boy!
