Some of My Favourite Ghibli Tattoos

I’ve never been a big person for tattoos, and I know little about the whole industry and process. There are a few tattoo ideas I like, but I am too scared of the pain, up-keep, if employers will be negative about them, and other variables to be willing to risk it.

So in saying that, I mostly find the ones I like are placed on wrists, ankles, down the arm or even following the ribcage along the back. I like black ink too. I’m sure the tattoos on this post reveal my tastes anyway.

So without further ado, I have been scrolling through the internet this week and found some really cool Studio Ghibli tattoos that I thought I would share!

THE 2 THINGS I AM ALWAYS WATCHING

I guess the normalcy of it helps just set a ‘relax routine’ too?

I have 2 go-to things that I always watch. Usually after something like exam block when all I want to do is sleep; or if the week hasn’t been amazing and I just need something to do that’s calming and nice.

The first one of these things is Studio Ghibli films. Whichever one I feel like watching in that moment. I love Studio Ghibli and their films. They’re cute, visually lovely, story wise amazing and I don’t think I could ever get sick of watching them because of how wonderfully made they are.

My usual go-to ones though are Howl’s Moving Castle and Ponyo. With then The Wind Rises, The Tale of Princess Kaguya, Princess Mononoke, Kiki’s Delivery Service, From Up On Poppy Hill and When Marnie Was There making frequent reoccurrences too. They’re engaging, pretty to watch and easy to have an emotional response too. Lying down on the couch huddles in blankets alone watching these is truly the way to go.

My other one then is Daria. I love Daria so much. It’s funny and relatable, and I’m also always inspired by Daria and Jane and how there are in constant pursue of their passions throughout the series. Daria makes me want to invest more of my time into writing, and Jane makes me want to take up art again (both things that I struggle to maintain when life gets busy). There’s also enough episodes to give variety to choose from, so usually I just pick a random season to watch episodes from so that I don’t watch it so much that I become bored.

Studio Ghibli films and Daria both are things that I am always watching. And I do think that I have the mindset of ‘watching these are nice, and I’m going to enjoy it, and I’m going to feel relaxed and happier after watching these.’ Because so far they both seem do this trick very nicely!

GHIBLI CHALLENGE DAY 30: LEAST FAVOURITE MOVIE

Now I know that technically Panda KoPanda is not a Ghibli movie. But Isao Takahata was the director and Hayao Miyazaki was the writer so I will count it just so I can say that it started off cutely, then got boring. I whipped out my DS to start playing Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded instead of paying attention to the movie, which honestly is an action that just speaks for itself

GHIBLI CHALLENGE DAY 29: ADAPTION YOU WANT TO SEE

“No matter how many weapons you have, no matter how great your technology might be, the world cannot live without love!” – Sheeta, Laputa

I think Nausicaa could be a cool adaption. The jungles, machines, the landscape would just be so interesting to look at and see how it would look ‘in-real-life.’ Though would also be super easy to butcher. But I’ll remain optimistic.

GHIBLI CHALLENGE DAY 27: MOVIE YOU WOULD RECOMMEND

“There’s no future for people who worship the future, and forget the past.” – Shun, From Up on Poppy Hill

I would recommend something ‘less popular’ – just to avoid expectations. So I’d suggest From Up On Poppy Hill. It’s easy to understand, cute and has nice characters. So long as you aren’t after action, I think you’ll like it!

GHIBLI CHALLENGE DAY 26: CHARACTER YOU IDENTIFY WITH

Sophie. Her story revolves around her developing confidence, realising her worth and all that other good self-esteem related stuff. She’s a character who knows her weaknesses, much like we all do. But actually has some amazing qualities which she learns to recognise within herself. The doubt she experiences of herself though I think we can all identify with (at least to a certain extent or at least within different situations people have been faced with).

GHIBLI CHALLENGE DAY 25: COSPLAY

“Sometimes you have to fight for the things that are worth fighting for.” – Arriety, The Secret World of Arrietty

Maybe Arrietty? She’d be probably the easiest for me to do since I’d just need a peg for my hair, the bag and a red dress with some boots!

GHIBLI CHALLENGE DAY 24: REPEAT WATCHING

“You make me think humanity’s not a complete waste.” – Porco, Porco Rosso

Which movies have I watched repeatedly? Okay, um… Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, Ponyo, Totoro, When Marnie Was There, The Tale of Princess Kaguya, Princess Mononoke, Kiki’s Devliery Service, The Cat Returns, Tales From EarthSea, Porco Rosso, The Castle of Cagliostro… probably more…
