What’s Your Favourite Anime Cliche?

Anime has cliches. It’s just a fact.

There’s cliches like nose bleeds, dead mums, the protagonists having vastly different coloured and styled hair than other characters, glowing when you power up, tripping and falling into someone, and more.

I think my favourites are sneezing when someone thinks of you. It’s just cute to have a little cut scene to someone sneezing then going back to the topic.

I also quite like what Jujutsu Kaisen did with the ‘screaming your attacks’ trope. Usually it’s a trope used so viewers know what’s going on – although it doesn’t make much point for the characters to do so in their storyworld. That’s why I like how Jujutsu Kaisen made this trope make sense. For Jujutsu Sorcerers they partake in a contract where their technique becomes more effective if they explain it to their opponent!

I Wish There Were More Anime Stores

There’s not many places in the city I live in that have anime stores unfortunately.

However! There is a pretty good manga selection in my city. Nowhere near as good as the photos I see from people online visiting Barnes and Nobles (we don’t have any in my country…) but there is good selection from a chain bookstore that’s in my state. They have series such as Demon Slayer, My Hero Academia, Death Note, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, the first few volumes of series such as Noragami, Black Torch, Kaguya-Sama: Love Is War and lots of Junji Ito’s works.

Because of this, I find that most people just buy merch and manga they see from the places that are easily accessible, and the few stores in not so convenient locations do get customers but they have a lot more online selection than in store selection.

People tend to go online mostly then for merch and if they are after a wider range of manga. Sites like BookDepository are very good since it’s free shipping (and Australia has such high shipping rates so this is a great option for us!) with niche manga and more volumes and Booktopia tends to also be a good option for many people since it sells a wide range of box sets.

Buying merch tends to then be done online using Australian sites that pop up when you google. As I said, there’s some good Australian shops such as Shumi Shop which opened in Perth and Let’s Go Akamaru! in South East Queensland.

So really, there’s good online options but I wish there was more in store options so we can get the experience of buying in store…

But what about you all? Do you have anime stores where you live? Or do you mostly have to shop online?

My Acrylic Stands!

I have some acrylic stands that I love a lot.

I have:
A cute Giyu and Tanjiro with their swords.
A Megumi and Itadori/Sukuna stand.
A lovely Aizawa acrylic (he was a gift given to me and he’s honestly probably my favourite one).
A Bakugou one (badly photographed by me hahah).
A Shinobu one.
And super cute Tanjiro, Zenitsu and Insouke stands I display as a set (they each are also meant to have an additional little piece that has their name on it in front of their character on the stand but I liked their look without it. Don’t worry though, I’ve kept the pieces in case I change my mind later on!)

Do you have acrylic stands? Any favourites or ones that you want to get?

My Favourite Jujutsu Kaisen Theories

MANGA SPOILERS AHEAD

I love a good theory as much as the next person. Jujutsu Kaisen has risen in popularity by tenfold since the anime aired and with this popularity has come an increase in theories. As the story progresses especially in the manga, there’s questions viewers have that these theories aim to answer:

Why is Yuji Sukuna’s Vessel?

There’s a theory that Yuji can be Sukuna’s vessel because he’s linked to Sukuna.

Sukuna is an actual Japanese legend – he’s a being with 4 arms and two faces. In some places the legend says that Sukuna was a kind spirit who saved villagers, but in other places the legend says that Sukuna was evil and that he killed and tortured people.

Because in Jujutsu Kaisen Sukuna is presented as pure evil though, this has lead some viewers to speculate that the ‘kind’ side of Sukuna could be Yuji.

This theory explains that the evil side of Sukuna was sealed away in his 20 fingers while his good side reincarnates as Yuji. This is used to explain why Yuji is the ‘1 in 1 million’ who can act as Sukuna’s vessel and why Yuji has enhanced superhuman physical abilities even before he ate his first cursed finger.

Is Yuji a Cursed Womb Death Painting?

This theory is discussed HERE. I loved reading this article because it explains a few theories regarding this question and what we have learnt in the manga about Yuji, Choso, their relationship and Yuji’s parents.

What is Toji’s Cursed Spirit Worm?

Toji has a cursed spirit worm that he takes with him to hold his weapons. Although Toji can’t actually see the spirit since he has zero cursed energy, he can sense its presence with his heightened senses. There’s a sad theory I saw HERE made by Tumblr user kaitinumaki about why this cursed spirit stays with Toji.

My Current Manga Wishlist

Although I do read manga online, I vastly prefer reading a physical book. I think I just find it easier to turn pages then scroll through definitely not shady websites. I thought I’d share my current manga wishlist for volumes I might buy if I find them! (Although currently, all of these I believe are either out of stock or not released yet).

Demon Slayer volume 20-23

Jujutsu Kaisen volume 0, 2-4

Dorohedoro volume 7-10
