GHIBLI CHALLENGE DAY 22: SEQUEL YOU WISH FOR

Ponyo obviously! A teenager, college, adult or something else with Ponyo and Sosuke! It would be wonderful to see how their relationship has developed, and how they’ve also individually grown throughout the years. Plus I’d love to see more of Ponyo’s and Sosuke’s parents!

There is sooooo much amazing art out there, it’d be just too hard to choose one! Any watercolour Ghibli art is my favourite art really then!

GHIBLI CHALLENGE DAY 20: FAVOURITE DIRECTOR

“I love Ponyo whether she’s a fish, human, or something in between.” – Sosuke, Ponyo

Hayao Miyazaki would have to take this title. He’s directed most of my favourite Ghibli movies, even though I also do love Isao Takahata too (and also quick appreciation for producer Toshio Suzuki).

The shorts that Ghibli has produced are the only things I haven’t seen. I’ve seen all the 24 movies and own them.

GHIBLI CHALLENGE DAY 17: WEIRDEST SCENE

“There’s nothing to fear.” – Nausicaa, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind

Anything from Pom Poko to be honest… I have flashbacks to me freaking out for two hours straight but preserving through it anytime someone mentions that film. And I’d rather not relive that experience please…

GHIBLI CHALLENGE DAY 16: FAVOURITE SCENE

“Ponyo loves Sosuke!” – Ponyo, Ponyo

I love all of Ponyo so can I say the whole thing? But the ending scene where Ponyo turns into a human I absolutely love! The goddess is great, Lisa is great, the old ladies are great, Sosuke is great, the animation is great, the dialogue is great, Ponyo is so cute and Fujimoto gets to have his caring side shine through nicely like he deserves.

Is that even a question? Grave of the Fireflies wins with flying colours

GHIBLI CHALLENGE DAY 14: FUNNIEST MOVIE 

“I’m going to put my paws together and pray that you’re not serious.” – Jiji, Kiki’s Delivery Service

I’m actually going to have to go with My Neighbours The Yamadas with this one. Just because there is one scene that made me laugh way too much – where the family is fighting over the remote and then they start standing in the way of the reception. And that is way too relatable and exactly what my family does. My sister and I have literally dove in front of the TV to block the other before, and none of my siblings, me and I are above fighting dirty for the remote. And I just wasn’t expecting that scene at all, so the first time I saw it I cried from laughing too hard and had to pause because I couldn’t recompose myself.

GHIBLI CHALLENGE DAY 13: FAVOURITE COUPLE

“We hate to cry, so let’s laugh instead.” – Taeko, Only Yesterday|

Wow that’s tough… Hmm… although I wouldn’t say that they’re my favourite… I do like Toshio and Taeko from Only Yesterday. I guess the reason why I like them is because the movie is about Taeko reflecting upon her life and also moving forward, and Toshio likes her and wants to take her as she is. They’re presented as adults, and there’s no ‘rose-lensed’ sort of stuff that happens for them nor a relationship based just about physical appearance despite that they do have chemistry. They make each other laugh, enjoy spending time with each other and are supportive of each other. So that’s wonderful.
