9 FACTS ABOUT CHARACTERS FROM DEATH NOTE

Why Italian version, why?

  1. Light

The important things to know about Light is that he is 179cm tall, weighs 54kg, his blood type is A and his birthday is the 28th February

  2. L

In the Italian version of Death Note, instead of using the letter ‘L’ to spell L’s name the phonetic spelling is used (‘Elle’). Though obviously L’s symbol was still the letter ‘L’ in Old English Text MT font

  3. Misa

Misa’s birthday is on Christmas, while her date of death is Valentine’s Day

  4. Ryuk

Takeshi Obata has said that he found it quite difficult to create Ryuk. Orginally, Ryuk’s design was that of a “young man similar to Light” with black hair and wings. He wanted to give the Shinigami almost a rock-star sort of appearance.
However, Obata thought that if Ryuk was more attractive than Light that Ryuk would appear to be the main character. So in the end Obata settled upon designing Ryuk with his more monster-like appearance

  5. Near

Like L in the Italian version of Death Note, instead of spelling N’s name as ‘N’ the phonetic spelling of ‘Enne’ is used

  6. Mello

So, apparently Madonna has admitted before that she’s a pretty big fan of Death Note, and that her favourite character is Mello? (No-one seems to be able to find the links to the interview though…) But anyway, it’s pretty much agreed upon by the Death Note fandom that Madonna cosplayed as Mello back in her 2007 music video of her song ‘Jump.’ The video was shot in Japan and in it she’s wearing a blonde wig and a leather outfit…

  7. Matsuda

When Mikami uses his Shinigami eyes and sees everybody’s lifespans, Matsuda’s is shown to be 548192

  8. Rem

Obata has said that he was inspired by the mythological creature Medusa to draw Rem’s hair the way that it is

  9. Watari

    Watari’s offical stats are as follows: intelligence – 7/10, creativity – 8/10, initiative – 10/10, emotional strength – 10/10, social skills – 8/10, versatility – 10/10

    1. I like the monster approach they took 🙂 The fan art out there of Ryuk’s original design looks incredible, though I feel like it would have gotten a bit confusing (or even kind of repetitive) to watch or read the series when Ryuk and Light were in the same scene…

    1. I believe that it’s actually quite a short time (most of the police officers, Mello and Near only had 4-6 digits in their lifespan while L, Misa and Light had 8)… 😦
Light’s is the only lifespan that’s every figured out in the series, so I think that the creators didn’t really care what the other characters’ lifespans were that much because there weren’t important to the series. In saying that though, using how Light’s lifespan is figured out, what you can do to find out what’s left of the person’s lifespan is take their lifespan and then divide it by 365, and then divide the new number by 3556 (since there’s 3556 days in a Shinigami day). This gives the number of years left of a person’s life!
For Light’s this works perfectly as he had 71 years left when he was aged 17. But I did it for Matsuda’s and it’s a bit weird… he seems to only have about half a year left…?!

    1. Thank-you! ❤ And Misa's is so sad, especially her death day 😦 And he numbers reveal how many years left a person has left to live e.g. if you're 15 and you're going to die when you're 90, then your numbers will end up revealing that you have 75 years left to live!

      1. Ahh… not really… 😅 I’ve explained how to figure out how many years left a character has and did Matsuda’s in a previous comment on this post though! It’s a bit of a long explanation but hopefully it’ll help make the whole lifespan thing easier to understand 🙂
