“I’m a butler to die for!” – Grell Sutcliffe
- Grell’s favourite colour is red. They believe that things which have the colour red in them, such as blood, can be used to achieve beauty
- Grell likes the scent of roses and musk
- However, they don’t like tea
- Grell’s name is thought to be a reference to Petter Sutcliffe (who is also known as ‘The Yorkshire Ripper’). ‘Grell’ is then thought to mean ‘gaudy’ or ‘garishly’ (in German)
- It was the actually Toboso’s editor’s idea to make Grell flamboyant
- Grell also didn’t wear high heels in the earlier drafts of the manga
- They like to use words that can be misinterpreted and like to reference plays in their speech. They also tend to liken events that happen to theatre terms
- Grell has been ranked as the 4th most popular character in the series
Non-binary pronouns!!! YAASSSS!!!! So much respect to you for doing that. Also, awesome post. Grell’s one of my favourite people from the series, so it’s nice to see some focus on them. 🙂

Grell is such an awesome character. As a lead, I’d probably find Grell a bit hard to take, but as a supporting cast member, he is just the right amount of over the top.

That’s a great point! And I have to agree that Grell is a bit too flamboyant to be able to watch for hours at a time…

Great post 🙂
Grell is a really fun character. They uplift the tone of Black Butler so much. The anime/manga would be so depressing without Grell 🙂
